Day 22 - More Animals

We awoke early in Bar Harbor as we were pretty far east and the sun was up early.  Nice to look out at the Atlantic.
The we got going but the town wasn't awake yet so after a brief drive around, we headed for the National Park drive around the shoreline.
At least the Nat Parks people were awake and there to take our money.
The drive was very pretty and we went down to a nice little beach.  Water temp was 14°C so we didn't go in.
Our little beach all to our selves
Beautiful coastal drive
Further along we got to Otter Point, but didn't see any otters.
Then it was around another small small harbour town, Mt Desert. There certainly were some beautiful residences here but it wasn't awake yet either.
Finally we made our way off the Island and found a shopping centre with a cafe for breakfast.

Sated, we began traveling west again, mostly just cruising and looking but heading in the general direction of south-west.  The Maine coast is full of bays, inlets and rivers so some of the roads are quite pleasant to drive.
Penobscot Narrows bridges - old and new.

We spotted on the maps a town called Lovell, so just had to go there.  On the way, Charleen saw a sign for a New Balance factory outlet.  We like their shoes except they are a bit expensive, usually over $100 per pair at home.  We left there with three pair for $88.  Funny thing was two pair were for me.

Next along the road was a One Cow ice cream shop.  We had to have a look at that.  The ice creams were unusually creamy for this part of the world so were thoroughly enjoyed.

We finally wound our way through the back blocks of Maine to Lovell and got a few pictures of our name on various places.  It was a very sparsely populated town spread out over three parts, North Lovell, Lovell Central and Lovell.

Enough Already!!

Katydid on the windscreen
It was now getting late so we began looking for digs for the night.  There were none available here so we brushed a katydid off the windscreen and headed over into New Hampshire and made for a major highway heading south.  There'd be something there.  On the way we had to climb over a mountain range on a road called Kancamagus Hwy that rose up to over 3000ft through the pass.  Once again we were warned to beware the moose, but saw none.

We located the major Hwy, I93 and headed south until we came upon a nice looking hotel that suited.  The desk man pointed us to a nearby restaurant called The Country Cow that sat beside a river over which there was a covered bridge.   Very picturesque place for a meal and the dinners were probably the best we've had all trip.  Charleen had NH Maple Chicken and I had Maine Lobster Alfredo.  Lobster two nights in a row.  Excellent.
