Another quick one

Safely in New York and had a good eight hour sleep.
The final part of the flight proved to be a little scary with landing in to a severe thunderstorm. Rain, wind and lightning and a lot of bouncing. But the pilots did a great job and we had a smooth landing.
Then the airport stuffed up the baggage handling leaving us waiting for an hour or so before we got bags.
A crazy shuttle ride and a nice hotel 31 floors up overlooking Times Square.

Then sleep. At last.

Busy day ahead today so piccies will have to wait until we are on the road.
Weatherman was right. It's a lovely day.

A quick post from the plane

This will just be a short entry. Nothing much happening, still just flying.
But interestingly, they have wifi on board. The Virgin America plane we are on is only a couple of month old. Very flash.

Charleen is in to the 32nd hour of her birthday and Starting to tire. Been awake since 5am Sunday in Brisbane.
We've had a couple of hours delay in LAX due to bad weather in New York. Thunderstorms still happening there and we are heading for them. Should be fun.
Weatherman promises NYC will be fine tomorrow.

Cheers

All Packed and Ready

Charleen has a Big Number birthday coming up. We had made and discarded several plans for holidays this year, but it came down to me asking, "You are turning 50 this year, where in the world would you like to go for your Birthday? Just name the place and we'll build a trip around it."

"Well," she said, "We've never been to a MotoGP race and the closest one to my birthday is on 28th August, a week later at Indianapolis Speedway."

Now you all know one of the reasons I love her.

The planning began six months ago and is about to unfold. For a bit of a change, we won't be riding this time, but are hiring a car in New York, taking a week to get to Indy, attending the race and hopefully meeting up with Jack and Linda who will travel over from Albuquerque, then spending another three weeks exploring the north-east corner of the USA. This will include visiting the remaining seven states to complete our previous plan to visit all 48 contiguous states of the country. That will only leave Hawaii and Alaska for another time.

So the bags are packed. We're ready to go. I can already hear strains of that song by Peter Paul and Mary (except we'll go together).
Saturday will be a little party being put on by Camo and Kath and I hear there is a cake involved, then Sunday we board our VA jet plane for LAX then JFK.

There is a link over the side there that will take you to our SPOT locator which we will have running when we pick up our Dodge Charger from New York. I'll try to do a blog entry each day, but no guarantees.

It'll be nice while we are away to read comments below each post (you have to jump through a few hoops) so don't be shy.
