Blue Ridge Heaven - 208 miles

This perfect day started out raining. There was quite a bit overnight but that didn't worry us at all in our cheap motel ($35 per room).

We did delay starting out however, until the rain eased to a sprinkling. Then it was on with the wets and away. Back on the Blue Ridge Parkway and away we went for another day of motorcycle nirvana. "An ideal condition of rest, harmony, stability, or joy." is the dictionary meaning of nirvana and I'll go with that for this road.
No really sharp corners that one would call twisties, no long straights at all, just a gentle progression through the mountains curving this way and that, with great scenery either side.

In case you are wondering, yes, we are enjoying the road.

One major plus for the BRP is no towns, no major intersections, no traffic lights and even very little traffic. Just pure scenic pleasure.
That means no services either, so if you want breakfast, you have to get off and go look for it.
Luckily, we sighted a small diner just off the road and did a U-turn. I love small diners. This one was called Tuggle's Gap Restaurant & motel. Nice folk, nice music playing, nice food. Glad we stopped.

The rest of the day was pretty simple - just moving along the road - overtaking the odd four-wheeled contraption and waving to all the two-wheeled engineering marvels.

Late in the day we had only covered a couple of hundred miles, but who really cares? We've exited and pulled up in the town of Boone - yes, named after Dan'l - and the usually ordinary Super8 is excellent. Cheaper than normal and the room is twice the size of any we've been in.

My cold has completely gone and Charleen's is almost over. So, all in all, we're doing fine.

We're looking forward to a couple hundred more miles of this wonderful road tomorrow.

Here's todays pictorial offerings:

A misty start to the day improved rapidly

Most bridges are these lovely stone arch style. It may be veneer, but sure looks good.

When the surface gets just a little rough, it is replaced.

Short break to remove wets at an old millpond

Great atmosphere here

Now THAT's a breakfast. We don't usually bother with lunch.

Another old Mill. See Jack? She got it.

We gently glide above the passing throng.

Probably the most serious corner all day...

.....contained this excellent sign.
