Heading West - 238 miles

Another transport day. After such a great day yesterday, today was always going to be pretty plain. The weather bureau promised us rain and lots of it, but it did not eventuate. Instead it was hot and humid - just like home in midsummer - which it is here and we are at similar latitude north to home south.

First off was to get through Orlando which is a large city about the size of Brisbane. Turned out it was fairly easy, but expensive. There was a toll road going right through, but it had multiple toll booths. Two of them were only three miles apart! Ended up we paid $11 for the bike and trailer. No wonder there wasn't much traffic on the road.

Inland florida is generally densly forested with heaps of large trees. Some properties have huge oaks spaced out over large grassy areas. Spanish moss hangs in most of the trees, supplying that tropical feel.

We stopped at the Suwannee River (everyone remember the song?) for a break. The water was heavily tannin-stained, but there were many small fish in the shallows. Kept us amused for a while.

Turned out the roads all day were pretty open so we arrived at the motel early. It being so hot, the air conditioned room was very welcome. After cooling off a bit Charleen and I went for a walk past many more motels and eateries. Jack and Linda opted for the pool. The water was warm and apparently soothing.

We ate at a very nice Italian reataurant next door. The decor and food was pretty good Italian, but the staff sure weren't. We witnessed a very different "Happy Birthday" from the staff to another table.

That weather is still threatened for tomorrow - we'll see.
