Day 16 - All Superiored Out

Our lovely host provided coffee and homemade poppyseed muffins to start the day.  We needed something warming as there was frost on the tops of nearby cars.  A check of the weather app showed that the overnight minimum was 3 degrees.  The fog was thick and visibility inside the car and out wasn't so good.  With the air con cranked up to full warm, we slowly achieved some heat inside.

The fog lifting on the lakes was something also worth a photo or two.  It would have been easy to stay for a good while and photograph the changes but the multitude of lakes called us on.  There were so many, even the people naming them were struggling.  There was Dad Lake, Baby Lake and Mom Lake.  A little further down the road was Orphan Lake.

Then we found ourselves by Lake Superior again, this time Old Woman Bay. We were starting to warm up, but the outside was still close to zero at 8:15am.  A quick session with the camera, skip a few stones into the lake and dive back into the warmth of the car.

Next stop was the scenic lookout of Agawa Bay.  It was 44F and we weren't so reluctant to be outside.  Around the Agawa Bay area it became obvious that we were nearing civilization again.  Plenty of roadside advertising for the various businesses in the approaching towns.

We pulled into The Voyageurs Lodge and Cookhouse in Batchawana Bay.  It was rather touristy looking unlike the one from the day before.  What a difference, the service wasn't great, the food was ok and it was lacking atmosphere.

In places we had been as high as 1,200+ft.  Now we were down to 620 feet and the last of Lake Superiour.  We've spent five days exploring the vastness of its northern shore.

Sault Ste. Marie loomed ahead, more signage, more houses, more traffic.  Fortunately we bypassed the majority of it and headed out on Hwy 17.  Here we turned south on 6 for Espanola.  We enquired about accommodation and were told that we would have better luck at Little Current especially as we intended to catch the ferry as part of our island hopping of Lake Huron.  We crossed a bridge to be on Great La Clouche Island.  Then another bridge, a swing bridge, to get us onto Manitoulin Island and Little Current.

Tonight we had fish for dinner.  It's called Whitefish, quite a large fillet and rather dense flesh, rather yummy all the same.

Today we saw:-
A Police car with interesting plate

4WD + 5th wheel van + bike carrier

I thought this meant skiers need to look out for deer.
