Slabs Rims Passes - 388 miles

From Winnemucca it was superslab for a while. We travelled down I80 with its 75mph speed limit and super-smooth surface. Before we knew it, we were slap in the middle of Reno traffic. All good fun.
We turned towards Lake Tahoe North as the plan was to ride around the west side of the lake.
Well, Tahoe is a perched lake at 6200ft and it stays there because of the huge mountain range around it. We had to go over that "lip" and in this case it was Mt Rose. The road rose alright, to 8893ft and was topped by a cloud of very cold rain. So our daily dose of rain was short lived, but very cold.
Down to the lake level and it warmed up again to a veritable tropical resort. There were people swimming and boating like it was a holiday or something. Actually it is school holidays.
The road around the lake is mostly lined by holiday houses, except where it is impossible. We thought about finding some lakeside accommodation for the night, but it was just a little busy.
So we headed over a couple of mountain passes and found ourselves back on our favourite highway, 395.
We headed down this for a while and found ourselves a motel at Bridgeport. We're not too far from meeting up with Bob and Kerry and Ken and Christine. Sometime tomorrow.

Charleen got a few photos:

Interesting pirates they had on Lake Tahoe
