Back to Jack's - 406 Miles

Woke up early at Amarillo and ready to go ay 7.00am. We forgot we had a hour up our sleeve because we are travelling west in to a new time zone.

Just west of Amarillo we could see 10 cars, partially buried in a field. Strange.

We were travelling mostly on I-40 so it was long straight wide with lots of trucks and people anxious to get to the other end of the road. Keeps you on your toes.

We made the obligatory stop at the New Mexico border. Nice stop, with loos and free coffee.

A little further up the road, we separated from Jack as he had an appointment to get to and we wanted to do a northern loop towards Albuquerque. We headed up Hwy84 and saw the beginnings of mountains for the first time in several days. We travelled through them then turned onto I-25 for a while. Big Interstate again, but not quite as busy as 40. Approaching Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico we were to make a left turn via a clover-leaf turn. Something about me and clover-leafs. We don't get on. So it meant a two mile detour to get back on the route.

We were heading for Madrid, a small town that was a focal point of the story for the film Wild Hogs. It is an old coal mining town which has changed over to art and tourism. The film was probably a big help. We parked outside the Diner used as a set. It is still the same, but not a diner. Had to go over the road for a bite to eat.
The main street is lined with galleries and souvenir shops so we spent a little time browsing.

GPS's do not make mistakes. They only work with the information they have on board. This time it was Bob's turn to have the only GPS with the correct information. Ken's had the wrong info and I had none. Charleen and I were staying at Jack's while the others are in a motel. Ken thought he was going to the motel, but had Jack's as his distination.

It all got sorted out eventually.

Jack and Linda were not home yet, so Charleen and I went to the local GoldWing accessory shop to get a new headset cord for me and brake pads all around for the bike. On the way we had a big fright as a car three in front of us on a freeway suddenly swerved across the three lanes and smacked the wall very hard. It bounced back and collected the car two in front of us. No one seriously hurt and plenty of people stopped to help, so we shakily continued on.

Back to the house and we all went down to Sadies, a renowned mexican restaurant, for a slap-up dinner.

Tomorrow, Ken and Christine and Bob and Kerry head off for Mexican Hat and the Grand Canyon. We stay here and give BRed a major service before heading for Las Vegas on Thursday.

Now I'll upload the photos and sit back and watch Wild Hogs, which happens, by coincidence, to be showing on TV tonight.

Cars in a paddock.

Nice big welcome

Hwy84 was nice - not superslab

This old church in Los Cerillos was used in films.

Inside it was quite peaceful
