Las Vegas is hot. Literally. We went for a little ride yesterday afternoon to find a laundromat and at 6:00pm the temperature was 107F.
Thank goodness for big air conditioned hotels.
But they weren't going to help us today as we are back on the road and this morning it was still too hot. The only thing that makes it bearable is the very low humidity. 11% yesterday. Something unheard of at home. Great for drying clothes though.
We got under way late - 8:30am. Well, we are on holidays and a final sleep in in our luxury hotel was too tempting. Also there wasn't too far to go.
Battled the traffic out of Vegas, fuelled up and bought a cheapie pair of sunglasses. My good ones are lost. Out into the stark desert heading north east. Good thing was the wind was heading the same direction so the running was easy.
Things eventually cooled down a bit as we climbed up to 5000+ feet (Vegas is at 2000) and approaching Cedar City we could actually feel the cooler air falling down from the plateau. Nice.
By the time we turned towards Bruces place it was 86F. Much nicer.
Pulled in and there was our trailer waiting. We met Bruce and Billie - a very nice couple. Bruce even offered to come in to town to search for new tyres for the trailer - they are getting a bit low. We tried several places without luck. The ones we need are occasionally found at Wal-mart stores, so we'll try again tomorrow nearer Salt Lake City, but if no luck we might have to ask Jack to transport some to us. They are available in Albuquerque, but we had no way to carry them.
We did affix Jack's Patented Drawbar Esky Bracket and with an Esky from Wall-mart, we can now carry cold stuff. Woo Hoo.
After all that it was only a hundred miles or so to our intended destination, Fillmore where we have booked in to a very nice KOA.
Here's piccies again:-
Our new friends Penn and Teller have a VERY large billboard.
Approaching a big Jump-up
Fire in the distance. The smoke is converting in to clouds.
Back in lovely mountains again. So nice after so much desert.
They grow a lot of lucerne hay here.
Pedal to the metal time. Or in our case, twist that wrist.
One of the nicest KOA's we've been at. Notice the new Esky on the trailer thanks to Jack's Engineering Shoppe
