Tyres and Slabs - 419 miles

We call them SuperSlabs. Usually two lanes each way, well separated. They are really boring, but a good quick way to get from A to B in this country. And they're everywhere.

Our goal for the last couple of days was to get up north. Away from the heat. So the best way to do that is to take a Superslab. In this case it was I-15. All the way from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City and beyond is minimum four lanes. I-15 actually goes all the way from San Diego, CA to the Canadian border in Montana, some 1400 miles (2300km) and is all four-lane. Amazing.

We found yet another Wal-mart and called in to check for trailer tyres. At last, they had some in stock and we replaced the well-worn ones on the little trailer. They'll be good for the rest of the trip.

Through Salt Lake City was just a mass of traffic and freeways. We have no interest in temples so we just rode right on by.

We re-entered Idaho and eventually got off the major road and found some much more to our liking. A winding two-lane took us in to Wyoming, a new state for us, and we made our way up towards Jackson where we booked in to probably the second-worst KOA of the trip. Amazingly, a lot of campgrounds put the tent-dwellers down the back of the park, furtherest from the amenities. We have to walk past all the giant motorhomes - that have on-board toilets and showers. Doesn't make sense.

Tomorrow we get to ride through the Grand Tetons National Park on our way to Yellowstone. The weather is cool again so we are really enjoying ourselves.

Charleen even took some pictures today:

More lucerne under irrigation

Salt Lake City freeway traffic
Something is just wrong with this rig

The mountain range runs all the eastern side of SLC
Noice. Good colour too.

At last - some good roads
